About this spot
The Spiegelrei is a picturesque canal in Bruges, Belgium. One of the main waterways in the city, it is located in the historic center, just outside the old city walls. The name 'Spiegelrei' translates to 'Mirror Canal' referring to the reflective surface of the water.

The Spiegelrei played an important role in the city's history as a major transportation route for goods during the medieval period. At the end of the canal you will find the Poortersloge, also known as the Poorters' Lodge or Burghers' Lodge. The Poortersloge was constructed in the 15th century and served as a meeting place and guildhall for the bourgeoisie or wealthy citizens of Bruges.
