About this spot
Formerly the estate of timber baron Louis Simpson, this state park has plenty to offer for nature photographers. Part of the estate is a beautifully landscaped area that includes a formal garden, a Japanese garden, lily pond, and rose gardens. There is almost always something in bloom in the gardens and from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve the gardens are decorated and lit with thousands of holiday lights.

Just steps from the gardens is a viewpoint overlooking a sandstone and lava bluff. At times of high surf, this is the best place on the Oregon coast to photograph huge waves crashing against the rocks.

Trails lead south along the bluff and then down to a small sandy cove, and north atop the cliffs for more dramatic coast views.
