About this spot
Mjóifjörður is a quiet fjord in the east-fjords area of Iceland. Spots to explore include waterfalls, stunning mountains, and a small shipwreck. This spot concentrates on the shipwreck, which is a US Navy WW2 landing craft which washed up here in 1966.
Some years after the war, the vessel was used for transporting fish produce from nearby Brekka by being towed (the engine had been removed at this point). Unfortunately it was not well suited and eventually was abandoned.
