About this spot
Place (Charles) Rogier (French: Place (Charles) Rogier) is a square in the Brussels municipality of Sint-Joost-ten-Node. The square is located on the Small Ring of the Belgian capital and forms the intersection of the Kruidtuinlaan, the Nieuwstraat, the Brabantstraat, the Adolphe Maxlaan and the Vooruitgangsstraat. Named after Charles Rogier, the square is located at the transition between the historic city center (the Pentagon) and the Noordruimte office district, an exponent of modern Brussels.

Rogierplein is dominated by contemporary high-rise buildings, housing offices, hotels and shopping centers. The square is therefore an important commercial center. On the north side of the Rogierplein is the Rogiertoren, the third tallest building in Belgium. Under the square is the Rogier metro station, where ring lines 2 and 6 and the north-south axis of the premetro intersect.

Until 1952, the Brussels North Station was located at Place Rogier. In connection with the commissioning of the North-South connection, the terminus station was replaced by a new station complex located further north. In 1955 the old station building was demolished.

Most of the square was redesigned from 2013 to 2015, with some entrances to the metro station being opened up and renovated. Above the station, a large parasol-shaped translucent awning has been built according to plans by Xaveer De Geyter. The construction weighs 200 tons and has a diameter of 64 meters.
