About this spot
The Pont de Recouvrance is a large vertical-lift bridge located in the city of Brest, in the Brittany region of France. The bridge spans the Penfeld River and connects the two halves of the city, which are divided by the river.

The Pont de Recouvrance was built in the 1950s to replace an older bridge that had been destroyed during World War II. It was designed by French engineer Jean Muller and is one of the largest vertical-lift bridges in Europe. The bridge is 60 meters tall and can lift up to 53 meters to allow ships to pass underneath.

The bridge is an iconic landmark in Brest and is visible from many parts of the city. It is also an important transportation hub, connecting the city center with the western suburbs and the nearby Brest-Guipavas Airport. The bridge is used by both road and pedestrian traffic, with a walkway on either side of the bridge offering stunning views of the river and the cityscape.

The Pont de Recouvrance is a symbol of the resilience and ingenuity of the people of Brest, who have rebuilt their city many times over the centuries after devastating attacks and disasters. It is also a testament to the region's engineering and technological prowess, which has played a key role in the economic and social development of Brittany.
