Portions of the Grand Canyon are sacred to several Native American Tribes and some places are off-limits to visitors. Additionally, it is illegal to disturb ancient sites and artifacts.

About this spot
Rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon is a trip like no other. The entire trip is 277 miles long starting at Lee's Ferry and ending on Lake Mead, and is mostly (but not completely) inside Grand Canyon National Park. Completing the entire trip takes 10 to 17 days. But it is possible to start a trip by hiking in at Phantom Ranch, at about river mile 88 (that is, 88 miles from the start of the trip at Lee's Ferry) and meeting a trip already in progress.

From Phantom Ranch, the full trip is to the take out on Lake Mead at Pearce Ferry is 189 miles (river mile 277). It is also possible to cut the trip short, hiking or helicoptering out at Whitmore (river mile 187.5) or Diamond Creek (the first place rafts can be taken out, at river mile 226).
