Portions of the Grand Canyon are sacred to several Native American Tribes and some places are off-limits to visitors. Additionally, it is illegal to disturb ancient sites and artifacts.

About this spot
Rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon is a trip like no other. The entire trip is 277 miles long starting at Lee's Ferry and ending on Lake Mead, and is mostly (but not completely) inside Grand Canyon National Park. Completing the entire trip takes 10 to 17 days. But it is possible to end a trip early by hiking out at Phantom Ranch, at about river mile 88 (that is, 88 miles from the start of the trip at Lee's Ferry).

From Lee's Ferry to the confluence of the Little Colorado River with the main stem at mile 62.5, the trip is actually through Marble Canyon with the Grand Canyon below the confluence. Marble Canyon is distinctly different than the Grand Canyon. The canyon walls are typically closer to the river. Below the confluence, the canyon widens and deepens.
