Shoot with care
If you go off the trail, avoid damaging the plants. In no case, walk or climb on the Painted Hills themselves. Traversing the hills causes unsightly scars and increases the erosion rate.

About this spot
The Painted Hills are a set of colorful, eroded hills within the Painted Hills sub-unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. There are several spots in the Painted Hills Unit to get great shots, but one of the best is along the Painted Hills Overlook Trail.

The overlook trail is 0.5 miles round trip and fairly level. It starts at the Painted Hills Viewpoint.
