About this spot
Nisqually Vista is as much a lesson in climate change as it is a scenic viewpoint. From this location you can look over the deep, scar-like gully carved out by the Nisqually Glacier a mere 60 years ago. The current view is a dynamic one which includes the glacier carved valley, the Nisqually River, a large waterfall, the base of the actual glacier and the long crevasse covered rise to the summit of Mt Rainier. The viewpoints are reached by a 1.2 mile trail. The lower section of the trail is a loop that passes through a wildflower meadow with mountain views then descends to 4 viewing areas. The only disadvantage of this trail is that it descends to the viewpoint, requiring you to climb back up when you are ready to leave. The trail is paved along the entire distance and could be considered wheel chair accessible, however, there are a couple of steep sections that could be hazardous if attempted without an athletic companion.
