About this spot
Philetus Walter Norris, the second superintendent of Yellowstone, said that Monarch’s eruptions in the 1880s shook the whole basin and discharged huge amounts of water. The geyser remained active until the early 20th century. Then it went dormant until the 1990s with much smaller eruptions. Today it is in a dormant stage again, but change is the only constant in Norris Geyser Basin, so who knows what the future will hold?
