About this spot
This barn and the Leonard Barn in Pullman are the only dodecagonal (12-sided), or “round” barns on the Palouse today. This magnificent structure was built along Cottonwood Creek in 1916 by Max Steinke. Its 60’ tall dome roof provided a centralized space for housing and feeding the draft horses used for farming the surrounding fields until around 1935 when motorized farm machinery replaced the need for draft horses.
