In terms of surface area, Koekelberg Basilica is the 5th largest church in the world, after the Basilique de Notre-Dame de la Paix, Ivory Coast, Saint Peter's Church,Rome, Saint Paul's Cathedral, London and Santa Maria Dei Fiori church, Firenze. Today the church is primarily a place of prayer for peace, parish celebrations and major national celebrations.
