About this spot
Jennette's Pier was destroyed in 2003 and replaced by a 1,000-foot long concrete structure designed to survive the many hurricanes that batter the coast of North Carolina, making it unique among piers along the Outer Banks. The pier is owned by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and is run in association with North Carolina's three coastal aquariums. Jennette's Pier doubles as traditional fishing location and as an educational facility. While offering the typical tackle, poles and bait, the interior of the pier also has a couple of fascinating fish tanks. In an attempt to be as energy efficient as possible, the pier is partially powered by three wind turbines.
