About this spot
In a city which seems to never stop building and renovating its historical sites, this is one of Shanghai’s more atmospheric and photogenic temples. Though popular, it is located in a quieter part of town. Originally built in 1882 to house two jade Buddha images, it was destroyed in the 1911 revolution, but rebuilt in 1928 - the priceless statues having thankfully been saved.
