Hong Cun (宏村)

About this spot
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hongcun is rural China at its finest, and the type of village most people imagine when they think of ancient China. The village has however become incredibly popular since it was used as the setting for the famous Ang Lee film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and - like Huangshan - even more so since the opening of a high speed rail link to Huangshan. Fortunately the crowds can be avoided by simply avoiding the busiest times (which coincidentally are also the best times for photography!).
