About this spot
Situated between Daileys Mor and Dail Beag beaches on the north west of Lewis is the Gearrannan Black House village. The houses here were abandoned in 1974 when the residents were relocated to nearby council housing. They are the last surviving group of such houses on the island and were formally designated as a conservation area in 1976. Restoration of the village was undertaken in the 1990's.
