About this spot
Moraines are made by glaciers when they expend, pushing rocks and dirt ahead and to the side as they flow down the sides of mountains. The moraines contain rocks of all the varieties encountered along the glacier's path. Some of the rocks are picked up and pushed aside, other rocks are churned by the glacier and ground into a very fine grained silt. The moraine is therefore, nothing but a giant rock and silt pile which is not very interesting or good looking. So it is not the moraine itself that makes this trail an excellent destination, rather it is the view of the Emmons Glacier and rugged Little Tahoma Peak that make this a trail interesting.
