About this spot
This spot is located on the Pont Alexandre III in direction of the Pont des Invalides and the Eiffel Tower.
The Pont Alexandre III is a bridge crossing the Seine between the Esplanade des Invalides and the avenue Winston-Churchill, where the Petit Palais and the Grand Palais are located.
It is located between the Pont Concorde (upstream) and the Pont des Invalides (downstream).
It was inaugurated for the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900 to symbolize Franco-Russian friendship, established by the signing of the alliance concluded in 1891 between the Emperor Alexander III (1845-1894) and the president of the French Republic Sadi Carnot. The foundation stone was laid by the Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, the Empress Alexandra Fedorovna and the President Félix Faure on October 7, 1896. The construction of this structure was entrusted to engineers Jean Résal and Amédée Alby, as well as to architects Cassien-Bernard and Gaston Cousin3.
