About this spot
Crystal Lake is a manmade lake located in the San Juan Mountains. It is a frequent stop on the Million Dollar Highway (US 550) between Ouray and Ironton. The surrounding hillsides are spectacular in the Fall with golden aspens. The season can fluctuate but peak season is approximately the end of September and first of October. There are several trails in the area including Hayden Trail, Full Moon Trail, and Hayden Ridge—all accessible from Crystal Lake. On calm days, you can see a reflection of nearby Red Mountain on the water.
