About this spot
Congaree National Park encompasses the largest stand of virgin bottomlands in the Southeastern USA. The bottomlands flood on a regular basis providing rich nutrients for tree growth. Some of the cypress trees are over 500 years old. Cedar Creek is navigable by canoe or kayak. Several outfitters provided guided tours of the creek. We booked with Palmetto Outdoors. While there is no fee to launch your own boat, tour company fees run about $100 USD per person. This was three hour tour covering 4 miles. There is no whitewater but high water levels can obscure the trail and result in dangerous conditions. Paddling is discouraged if the water level is at 8' or above. You can determine the water level at this site.
