About this spot
The cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and San Genesio is the main Catholic place of worship in San Miniato, the mother church of the diocese of the same name .
The church, which became a cathedral in 1622 when San Miniato was elevated to diocesan headquarters, is located on the square known as Prato del Duomo , the area of the citadel dominated by the castle and tower of Frederick II . It is the oldest part of the city bringing together the Cathedral, the Bishop's Palace and the Palace of the Imperial Vicars .
