About this spot
Carcassone, is a fortified city in France. It is located in the Occitanie region 90 km south-east of Toulouse, roughly between the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noire. After Paris and Mont-Saint-Michel, it is the largest tourist attraction in France. The most famous sight is the fully restored fortified old town, La Cité de Carcassonne. This Ville fortifiée historique de Carcassonne has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. It is an exceptional example of a medieval city in Europe, which has been almost completely preserved, and the largest preserved fortress from the Middle Ages.
