About this spot
The barriers are located on the west and east sides of the harbour channel. It is wonderful walking, the place to get a breath of fresh air and marvel at the spectacle of boats sailing in and out.
The "Wester" and the "Oosterstaketsel" were originally constructed in the period 1863-1871, but possibly as early as 1860. The structures are an important infrastructure for a seaport, in particular for piloting the boats in the harbor channel.
