About this spot
The bastion of Holland was built from 1674 following the collapse of part of the original city wall protecting an old platform. The latter supported three windmills called Collin mills.

The new bastion took the name of Holland because the construction of the work began during the war against this country.

It was completed by the engineer Siméon de Garengeau and armed with several of the cannons offered to the city in 1696 by the Count of Toulouse, Governor of Brittany, in gratitude for the contribution of the Malouins to the defense of the country, by the armament in war their ships for the race.
