About this spot
Akihabara is an area in Tokyo known for “otaku” culture as well as a shopping district for video games, anime, manga, and electronic goods. On the west side of the station is a strip known as “Electric town” which is covered in vibrant signs and flashing lights. During the daytime it’s not uncommon to see locals dressed in costume, “idol” bands performing, and colorful shop staff advertising in the streets. From evening the area lives up to its “Electric Town” name as the sky darkens and the buildings and neon signs are lit up all the way down the strip.
This spot is great to shoot anytime of year just after sunset when the buildings are lit up and the sky is not yet completely dark. Spring and summer tend to have bigger crowds which add to the hustle and bustle feel, and rainy days are excellent as pedestrians with umbrellas and reflections in the street can add another layer of interest.
