About this spot
The Franciscan Monastery: This monastery is known for its stunning architecture, which blends Romanesque and Gothic styles. It houses a beautiful cloister, which is considered one of the most valuable late Romanesque cloisters in the Dalmatian region. The cloister's columns and the intricate capitals, featuring a variety of decorative motifs, are particularly photogenic.
The Church: Attached to the monastery, the church is an excellent example of Dubrovnik’s architectural and religious heritage. While much of the church was rebuilt after the 1667 earthquake, it still retains a Gothic portal on its south side, which is a masterpiece and a popular subject for photography. Inside, you can find valuable art pieces, including a polyptych by the Venetian artist Bellini.
The Pharmacy: The monastery is also famous for housing one of the oldest functioning pharmacies in Europe, dating back to 1317. The pharmacy is not only a place of historical medical practice but also an exhibit of old medical instruments and unique pharmaceutical jars. These antique items, along with the interior design, provide a unique glimpse into the history of medicine, making them interesting subjects for photography.
