About this spot
Roaring Mountain no longer roars, but hisses and hums. In the late 1800s and early 1900s you could hear the mountain miles away. Fumaroles (steam vents) in the side of the mountain release sulfuric gases in clouds of steam. The hillside is so hot and full of acidic gasses that there is no vegetation on the active part of the mountain.
