About this spot
Although Isa Lake is not one of the prettiest locations in Yellowstone, it is very unique and worth a stop. Isa Lake sits on top of the Continental Divide. The Continental divide is defined as “the main series of mountain ridges in North America, chiefly the crests of the Rocky Mountains that form a watershed that separates the rivers flowing east into the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico from those flowing west into the Pacific Ocean.” The lake is thought to be the only natural lake in the world that drains to two different oceans. Even more interesting is that the creek that leaves the eastern end of the lake flows into Lewis River and eventually to the Pacific Ocean and the water flowing from the western end flows into the Firehole River and eventually into the Gulf of Mexico. So although this might not be the most spectacular image you take in Yellowstone it is one of the most unique features in the park!
