About this spot
One of the biggest and most well known limestone pavements in the Dales, you'll probably recognise the views from this location taken by many other photographers before you - and it's easy to see just why so many people are drawn here. Luckily, with it being so large, you can still find peaceful spots if you like the time away from other people. Along with the pavement itself there are numerous erratic boulders strewn across the landscape here, left over from the ice age, along with large chasms in the ground where water has eroded the limestone into odd looking voids. The erratics are easy enough to spot, due to their prominence on the relatively flat pavement but the holes in the ground will only be evident if you're lucky enough to stumble across them (one of the best is very close to the main footpath along the scar, although this does split and merge in places).
