About this spot
Simon's Seat may not be the highest of Yorkshire Dales hills, but its prominence makes it stand out in the southern Dales. It's also a bit different to many other Dales fells in that it is dominated by millstone grit, with rocky outcrops more reminiscent of the Peak District than anywhere else. The summit itself is the most prominent of these outcrops, towering over southern Wharfedale - but there are a number of other features up here that are all worth photographing, including wandering south to Carncliffe Top and the crags around there.
Unfortunately, the land here is only permissive access land and many of the routes, rightly or wrongly, don't allow dogs in order to allow the grouse to breed successfully. It's a popular fell too, so this is one you may get caught out on should you break the rules.
