About this spot
Three Shires Head is a small packhorse bridge
where the River Dane runs underneath,
creating a small waterfall. It is located close to the highest village in England, Flash. It is called Three Shires Head (or Three Shire Heads) due to it being the meeting point of Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire.

In times gone by, it was used by people to run from the law back in the days when jurisdiction across counties was not given. Criminals would only have to cross the bridge and be free from the law. The village of Flash also gains its name
from Flash Money (counterfeit money).

The location is idyllic, the River Dane courses its way from Axe Edge Moor above Buxton, down the moors to this little packhorse bridge.
