About this spot
Alport Height is a notable hill near the village of Wirksworth and lies just outside of the Peak District. It is the first hill over 1,000 feet within easy reach of Derby. The views from here, because of the flat land below is extensive. On a clear day, you see areas such as The Malverns in Worcestershire and The Long
Mynd and The Wrekin in Shropshire, which are over 50 miles away as the crow flies.

The main photographic attraction at Alport Height is the quarried gritstone monolith, standing in the quarry hollow, just below the summit. This was a popular place for the early pioneers of bouldering.
