United Kingdom High Tor

About this spot
High Tor is an imposing and impressive
limestone cliff face at the side of the River
Derwent in Matlock Bath, often nicknamed ‘The Eiger of Derbyshire’. The cliff face is a popular place for climbers but a much easier route leads up to the summit through High
Tor Park grounds. You can achieve the same expansive and dramatic summit views, without the same pain and effort.

Matlock Bath is nicknamed ‘Little Switzerland’ with its towering cliff formations and houses built
on the valley side.

Just below the summit is Giddy Edge, one of the most unique features of High Tor. It’s a narrow ledge with an old Victorian style via ferrata (complete with one-way system). It is the only location like this, I believe, in Derbyshire. Certainly a place reserved only for those with a head for heights.
