Stanton Moor is a high up, large moorland
plateau with expansive views back over
towards Matlock. It is the gateway to the
Peak District coming from Matlock and
offers the first taste of things to come.
While very much in the White Peak, it has all the characteristics of any Dark Peak location, with gritstone quarries and smaller scale edges lining the moor.
Stanton Moor is full of large boulders, and the most prominent is the ‘Cork Stone’. It derives its name from its unique shape that resembles a bottle cork. Metal rings are placed in the boulder to allow you to climb up, but take care if you choose to tackle this.
