About this spot
High Wheeldon is a lofty pyramid shaped
hill in the upper Dove Valley near the small village of Earl Sterndale. It is on the border of Staffordshire and Derbyshire. Driving along the roads around here and the hill is very distinctive with its steep-sided, green grassy banks leading to its summit.

It is not as popular as the nearby
Chrome and Parkhouse Hill despite its higher elevation but is one of the best
places to view the aforementioned hills with their unique shapes rising sharply out of the Dove Valley.

Below the summit is a rock shelter named
Fox Hole Cave that has great archaeological significance. Items have been found inside from the Neolithic period. Unfortunately the cave is
now closed off.
