About this spot
Kinder Scout is the highest ‘mountain’ in the Peak District and Derbyshire at 636m. It is a large plateau consuming a lot of area in the Dark Peak. Before the Countryside and Rights of Way Act in 2000, it was illegal to walk through a lot of places in the UK. On 24th April 1932, the western side of Kinder Scout was home to the mass trespass. At least 400 ramblers walked up Kinder Scout from Bowden Bridge and were met by gamekeepers. The encounter ended
with some violence and some of the ramblers imprisoned. To this day, this
act of bravery is recognised, giving us the
freedom we now enjoy and take for granted to walk our uplands.

Kinder Downfall is Derbyshire’s highest waterfall with a height of 30m. It can turn from a trickle in summer to a a full blown cascade after heavy rainfall and can freeze over in winter - great for ice climbing.
