About this spot
There are two Back Tors in the Peak District; this one is located mid-way along the Great Ridge and shouldn’t be confused with the nearby summit of Derwent Edge.

Back Tor is one of the main hills on the Great Ridge running between Mam Tor in Castleton and Lose Hill in Hope. Many images of the Great Ridge shot at sunrise from Mam Tor will include Back Tor in the composition, but not many photographers venture to the actual hill itself.
Consistent with the geology of Mam Tor less than a mile away, Back Tor is a large shale landslip that falls away to the Edale Valley below.

The views from the tor itself are splendid with views down to both the Edale and Hope valleys.
