About this spot
St George’s cathedral was built in the 14th century and dominates views above the old town of Piran. The Bell Tower (46.45 m), completed in the year 1608, is a smaller scale copy of the San Marco Campanile in Venice, thus confirming that it was built during a period of Venetian influence in Piran.
During the summer months, you may climb the tower and admire the views of Slovenia and Croatia as well as the Italian coast, from Trieste to Duino, and from Tarvisio to Grado; on days of high northern winds, you can even see the Julian Alps and Dolomites.
