About this spot
The Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge protects the estuary and delta area of the Nisqually River. It is perhaps the premiere birding location in the south Puget Sound area. Every year thousands of birds stop at the refuge during their spring and fall migrations. Much of the refuge is former farmland that has been restored by removing dikes and reconnecting lands with the tides of Puget Sound. There are several miles of trail in the refuge, including a mile-long boardwalk over the estuary waters.
