About this spot
Buxton Woods is a 0.75 mile long trail through coastal vegetation native to the Outer Banks. The trail starts in an oak and pine forest, crosses an old sand dune then wanders along the edge of an inland swamp. Along the way are signs explaining the wildlife that may be viewed and naming the different varieties of vegetation growing along the trail. The real stars of this short stroll are the dwarf palmettos and the Loblolly Pine. The palms are at the northern end of the their natural growing environment in the Outer Banks. The Loblolly Pine is common throughout the area.
