About this spot
In 2002 the upper section of the Dosewallips road washed out, leaving the road open to hiking and bicycle riding only. The result is a beautiful 5.5-mile walk up the Dosewalips River to reach the old Olympic National Park campground and ranger station. The scenery along the road is a combination of vibrant forest, lovely creeks, and the Dosewallips River. Although, not technically a rainforest, the forest floor is covered with a thick layer of moss, Oregon Grape and ferns. Moss covers many trees, including the long hanging Icicle variety. The Dosewallips Campground is still open for camping. Water must come from the river.
