About this spot
The main attraction of this triangular loop hike is the coast and the petroglyphs at Wedding Rocks. Two legs of this 9.5 mile loop are through the coastal forest, with long sections of boardwalk, (can be very slippery). The trail to Cape Alava is 3.3 miles long and the Sand Point trail is 3 miles long. The two trails are connected by a 3.2-mile walk along the beach which is best done at low tide. https://www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/tides-and-your-safety.htm The ideal way to see, photograph and explore this area is to spend at least one night on the coast allowing time to explore and photograph the area. Just north of Cape Alava is a beach covered with cannonball shaped rocks. South from Sand Point is the scenic Yellow Banks area. The petroglyphs are located on rocks along the shoreline on the south side of a small headland, one mile south of Cape Alava. Although there are over 40 petroglyphs, the entire group can be easily passed by if you are not paying attention. Many of the petroglyphs require a lot of searching.
