The Institut de France is a French institution created in 1795. It brings together the nation's scientific, literary and artistic elites so that they work together to perfect the sciences and the arts, develop independent thinking and advise the public authorities. This earned him the nickname "Parliament of the learned world". He sits on Quai de Conti, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.
It brings together five academies, whose solemn meetings take place in green clothes under the dome of the college of the Four Nations which shelters it:
- the French Academy (40 members);
- the Academy of Inscriptions and Letters-Letters (55 members);
- the Academy of Sciences (263 members);
- the Academy of Fine Arts (63 members);
- the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences (50 members).
Ability to receive legacies and donations, the Institute shelters numerous foundations on which depend prices, museums, historical monuments and properties in France and abroad.
