About this spot
Miyajima is famous worldwide for the large red Torii gate that is sometimes submerged in water depending on the tide. At low tide you are able to go up and see just how massive the gate is. Miyajima is also famous for the centuries-old Itsukushima Shrine that also is partially submerged in water for part of the day. Fresh oysters from the bay can make a great lunch while touring the island. There are many different restaurants to choose from while you are there. Don't forget to say hi to the locals. You're sure not to miss them with their big horns begging for some food. Just as Nara is famous for its friendly deer, Miyajima has its own population of friendly deer to encounter.
