About this spot
Eagle Peak Saddle offers a uniquely broad vista of Mt Rainier and the southwest side of the park. From the saddle look down on winding Longmire to Paradise road. Above the road view Comet and Narada Falls sparkling brightly against a background of the green forest. The buildings, parking lots and meadows of Paradise are visible directly across the Paradise River Valley. Looking even higher, view the Nisqually, Wilson and Kautz Glaciers. With a little imagination or a pair of binoculars you can see the lines of climbers heading up to Camp Muir. In short, it is an amazing view. Best of all, this excellent viewpoint has often been overlooked by park visitors so photographers do not have to wade through crowds on the wide, well graded trail that takes you 2/3s of the way to saddle. The final 1/3 is the standard Mt Rainier National Park trail with giant steps as it ascends flower covered meadows.
