Only attend the officially organised festival - eagle ownership has grown in the districts where the eagle festivals are held and there are reports of some locals cashing in on the tourist trend by attracting visitors to herders' homes to demonstrate falconry skills. These birds may not be owned by genuine hunters and this practise should not be encouraged.

About this spot
The Altai Golden Eagle Festival was established in 2000 as a collaboration between tour operators and local Kazakh eagle hunters. It showcases the skills of the Kazakh golden eagle hunters. The competition site is set below a small rocky peak. The eagle hunters ride up to the peak with their birds before launching them off to the course below to catch a lure being dragged by a horse and rider
