It's much better to arrive before the sunrise, as the place is less crowded at this time; and the light will work in your favour too. I've shot this frame at 16mm (full frame) and had to bracket 3 exposures to get all the detail in the shadows and highlights that I wanted.

Up from above you get a nice pano view over the whole area.

Walk along the area to get various viewing angles, but beware that the sun rises very quickly and the golden hour is very short; so you'll get only a short period of soft light before it gets very harsh. Be sure to have a scene composed in advance!
