About this spot
Whitman Mission National Historic Site is the site of the former Whitman Mission and the location of where, in November 1847, Dr.Whitman, his wife, and 11 others were killed by Native Americans in what has become known as the Whitman Massacre. The park tells story of the Whitmans; the Oregon Trail, which passes through the site; and the clash of cultures between Native Americans and white American settlers.
