About this spot
The Three Dikgosi is a trio of bronze statues in Gaborone's central business district. Inaugurated in 2005, the three 18ft figures are of the 3 dikgosi (or "Tribal Chief") who were instrumental in Botswana's independence: Khama III, Sebele I, and Bathoen I.
There is some controversy over the monument, such as some ethnic groups in the country seeing the statues as a form of dominance by the Tswana people. In addition, the construction contract to a North Korean company, rather than a local one.
