About this spot
Loch Shiel is a freshwater loch situated 20 km west of Fort William. It is the 4th longest loch in Scotland at 28 km long. The view of the loch looking south from the Glenfinnan monument, showing wooded hillsides with bare summits rising steeply from a fjord-like loch, has become one of the most famous images of the Scottish Highlands. Many movie scenes have been filmed here, including the arrival of the Durmstrang ship scene in Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire.
